BRIXTON ADVENTURE

Facts that were Quoted on Morleys wall:(also had amazing old photos from the past brixton)
"A star man was born
DAVID BOWIE at standsfeild road Brixton"
"EDDIE GRANTS hit 'eletric avernue' celebrates the vibe of the area"

this is the jazz player that really set the tone in brixton, this place is truely buzzing and full of wonderful characters. the music is blaring from inside electric avenue, with loads of stalls and people singing.
the music really impacted by the war. The Brixton area was bombed during WW1
contributing to a severe housing crisis, which in turn led to urban decay. This was followed by slum clearances and the building of Council housing. In the 1940s and 1950s many immigrants, particularly from the West Indies, settled in Brixton.

Brixton is sure a vibrant place to go and visit each day! the music scene has really inspired me today, so decided to base this section of my rough guide on the music, and how when travelling around brixton it shifts from where you visit in this cultural diverse communtiy.
when ever im in the Electric Avenue i notice that everything has a rhythm pumping out, wether it is a place selling music or selling fish it runs on nosie. there is such a range of stalls selling modern r and b and regge to palces dedicated to 1950 soul. there is the best store called Reds that has such a selection of music and is a true heart of music in the brixton scene.
Morleys is the local department store, you can tell it is trying to run on the connection to brixtons past. But the feeling when you enter the store is completely different to when you walk in the street. this is mainly due to the inoffensive mainstream music that is subtle and calming. Huge change from electric avenue.

the place to eat?

franco manca-thebest pizza and a real jewel in the market.

the best place to shop?
the market- this retro and beautiful maket is packet with all the vegatables that you would ever need. it is truely stunning with the layout of the fruit and veg, and even the fish and pigs trotters look fresh and viberant. this tinned goods make you feel like you have walked into time warp with the vibrant 1970s food labels and simple mass stacking.
